The WV Stock Index tracks the top 25 publicly traded companies that do business in West Virginia, and is weighted by number of employees. This index accounts for more than 53,000 workers throughout West Virginia. Individual company stock prices are weighted by their portion of the 53,000.
Companies included in the index are (in order of employment): Wal-Mart, Kroger, Mylan Inc., Lowes, Frontier Telecommunications, General Mills, American Electric Power, Pilgrim’s Pride, FirstEnergy, Dollar General, Rite Aid, Macy’s, McDonald’s, Arch Coal, Quad Graphics, Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Bob Evans Farms, Dominion Transmission, AT&T/DirecTV, United Parcel Service, Alliant Techsystems, Darden Restaurants, Manpower, CVS Pharmacy and Amazon.com.
This index compares current stock prices to the same data beginning January 5, 2004 and is compared to the Dow Jones Industrial Average for the same period. The makeup of firms comprising the index is adjusted periodically to reflect changes in employment.
