Huntington, WV – The Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) at Marshall University welcomes Jennifer Shand, Ph.D. as the new director. As the Director of CBER, Dr. Shand will continue CBER’s focus as a resource for quality research and independent analysis. “In the role as director, I see myself and CBER as not only a resource for research, but also as a strategic partner for local economic growth and development – helping connect Marshall University, local businesses, policymakers and community and regional stakeholders,” Dr. Shand said. Prior to joining CBER, Dr. Shand worked at Virginia Tech’s Office of Economic Development, where she worked across university departments and with regional and industry partners to address a variety of issues throughout the State. Her background includes working with local communities, non-‐profits and industry on applied research projects at the Economics Center at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Shand’s projects include building custom forecasting and analytical tools, industry and market analyses and working with consortia of regional and industry stakeholders. Dr. Shand received her Ph.D. in Economics from Ohio State University in 2008, with specializations in International Economics and Regional Development. Her personal research focuses on the implications of personal debt for various household decisions such as home ownership and starting a family. “I am excited to be working at CBER and look forward to continuing the tradition of producing high-‐ quality, informative research projects in the areas of energy, demographics, health, education and policy analysis,” Dr. Shand said. “I hope to complement the existing expertise of CBER with my background in applied economics research and consulting, particularly as it relates to regional economic growth and development.” CBER provides economic research to public, private and non-‐profit sectors, specializing in the areas of energy, policy, education and health.
